Can a plantar plate tear heal on its own?

I have been diagnosed with a plantar plate tear. Can it heal by itself without treatment?

Depends.
If you cut back a lot on your activity levels, wear a stiffer soled shoe, it could heal up on its own. That may take a while and it could happen again as the original cause was not addressed.

To help it heal it needs strapping to hold the toe plantarfexed. See this: Strapping for a plantar plate tear

Then talk to your Dr about what was the cause and address that.
