Cortisone Injection Really Needed ?

I have had a long standing problem with my feet, knee and back. The feet has hopefully been fixed through the use of insoles provided by a private podiatrist. The back has also been helped by this greatly, however my physio now wants me to have a cortisone injection in my knee because he says it is thickening/thickened. There is rarely ever any pain from my knee so is this really needed or the best route to take ?

DocPod 		I am no expert in knees, but really fail to see how a cortisone injection will help any joint that is not painful!
