Exra toenail in big toes?

I've always had to cut back the nails on my big toes excessively deep.they grow rather far into the toe, and had a very sharp edge that cut into the toe.about a year ago, after cutting I still had terrible pressure in both toes.I dug around in my toe, thinking that I had ripped the nail and left a piece inn the toe.
To my horror I wound up levering out another entire toenail! I went to the other toe and the same thing occurred- but at least I was ready this time and not so shocked.
Now, roughly every 8 weeks I have to remove them again.the process is terribly painful.it causes severe bruising of the toe and severe discomfort for 3-5days after the removal.
My biggest fear is infection, home surgery of this nature isn't very appealing and I'd really like to not have to do this, it's rather nasty.
The toenail in question is about the size and shape of a canine tooth.I've not found any information online, and I really do need some relief.I've tried to include some pictures here.
The picture out the nail on the finger came from the left foot, the broken up piece came from the right.( sometimes I'm not able to remove them without them breaking up- this actually makes it worse, and increases my fear of infection)
These pieces grow DOWNWARD into the toe, they are simply no fun at All to have or to remove.no one I've asked had ever seen this, and I've not found anything online resembling it.could you please help me?
Thank you for your time.
I'm not able to attach a picture to this from my phone, so I'll follow up with an email with pictures.
