Sesamoid fracture and the healing process... ?
About 2 months ago I fractured my sesamoid and just today finally mannaged to get into the podiatrist and find out why my foot has been hurting. They put me in a boot and sent me on my way to come back in a month. Though, after doing some reading I have some concerns about the healing process. In less than 5 months I have plans to head out to Africa to do some field reasurch that is going to require me to be able to both hike and climb extensivly for hours a day. While when they put me in the boot they did not mention possibly needing surgery from what I have read so far it is rare that these types of injuries heal on their own and can often take upwards of 6 months to get people back up to walking normaly and being able to do more physical activity without pain and risk of further injury. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this type of injury or knows more about the healing process. If I am not going to be able to go to Ethiopia for my reasurch next semester I needed to know sooner rather than later seeing as that would mean falling a year behind with my school work and courses. I would truly appreciate your imput. Thanks!
