How to re-seal toenail groove onto toenail ?

The right side of my right big toenail has detached from the toenail groove. My doctor's assistant is suggesting a toenail removal even though he stated that my toenail is growing correctly and is extremely healthy. I think he's trying to get a quick fix by just removing it, but I would prefer finding another way to simply heal the toenail groove. It hardly has any discomfort unless I have walked for a prolonged period of time, it lightly bumps into something, or it gets caught under my blankets, sheets, or sock. Is a toenail removal necessary to reattach (re-seal) the toenail groove onto my toenail, or is there another solution?

If a nail has become detached in the way I understand your description, there is no way its going to attach on it own.

The best thing to do is have the nail cut back as far as it can be safely cut back to avoid catching it on things - otherwise you are at great risk of further damage.

I not sure there s any advantage of removing the toenail over just cutting it back.
