pain in ball of foot under big toe ?

Some days after a hard workout, I get some pain under the ball of my foot under the big toe joint. Any suggestions as to what this might be?

DocPod 		Obviously without an examination all anyone can do is guess, but my best guess is a condition known as sesamoiditis. The sesamoids are two small bone under the base of the big toe (they act as "levers" for the tendons in the same way the patella or knee cap functions at the knee). In sports it can be easy to inflame the tissues around these bones resulting in the sesamoiditis.

The best way to deal with this is to use some padding to offload the area so you not putting so much pressure on it.
