numbness is spreading from the middle of the ball of my right foot to the big toe and the top of second toe ?

Nearly 3 years ago I started to feel a slight numbness at the tip of the big toe and more severe numbness at the tip of the adjacent second toe. I am not a diabetic. My GP dismissed it as arthritis and nothing was done. I am 63 years old. The numbness is getting worse and has now spread towards the middle of the ball of my foot. My GP has tested for numbness with a needle and agrees its bad, but does not seem to be at a loss as to what to suggest next. I need advice where to go from here, I clearly need to see a specialist for some tests, it feels like nerve damage. Please help, I am worried that I will loose the use of my foot in time.

DocPod 		I think you need to see a neurologist ASAP. Without an examination, its hard to tell you what is happening.

If its only on one side, then its most likely just something like a pinched or irritated nerve.
If its happening on both sides, then there are a number of different peripheral neuropathy's that can account for it.
