ingrown toenail ?

I have had two wedge resection for an ingrown toenail to the medial aspect of my right big toe that have not been successful. I still have a painful infection involving the flesh of the toe. Now it seems like the lateral aspect of the toenail seems to develope the problem, too. I have tried everything from ointments to chemicals but nothing seems to get rid of this painful infection. I change the dressing twice a day to keep it nice and clean, soak it in water and irrigate it. What can be done at this point since wedge resection did not give any relief?

You need to get a second opinion. The failure rate of a wedge resection is extremely low. They only tend to recur if they are not done properly.

There is also a possibility that the infecion has got into the bone, so would get someone to check that ASAP.
