Allopurinol is a medication given to gout patients which helps by inhibiting the production of uric acid crystals and therefore reducing gout attacks. This is the most commonly prescribed medication and is generally well tolerated. Also, there is a medication called probenecid which increases the kidney's ability to remove uric acid from the body and it works well. If you need a fast response medications like indomethacin and colchicine are more commonly used until the flare passes. Good luck.
