Big toenail came off...how can I keep it from growing back?

I am a paraplegic. I have had difficulty with ingrown toenails. I have had the sides of my big toenail removed and that worked for a while but eventually the nail grew back again. I had the whole nail removed two years ago...it grew back but dark and thick and hard. I was trying to remove the ingrown portion yesterday and the entire nail came off. It detached from under the cuticle. As a high T-3 paraplegic I struggle with dysreflexia so ingrown toenail, once serious, can cause blood pressure to rise, skin to become splotchy & serious, I MEAN SERIOUS headaches! My question is: What can I do to stop my big toenail from growing back?

There is nothing you can do. The matrix or growing area of the nail needs to be destroyed (surgically) to stop nails growing.
