My son's leg pain at night ?

My son wakes up with a cramp in his leg at night. I read on a website that the term growing pains is often used to describe any leg pain in kids and could be a sign of something serious. My dr told me this is growing pains. How can I check that this is not something more serious.

Depends on if this is a reoccuring problem or if it goes away comes back that sort of thing. If its every night for months then it may be a problem if its once amonth or once a week its probably growing pains.

I would not be too concerned as most pain in the leg children is just that - a growing pain. The classical growing pains are a cramp in the upper part of the calf muscle that is relieved with rubbing. The more serious and are problems, tend to have a deeper pain in the bone or the pain is in the joint. The typical growing pain only occurs at night, so if your son as that pattern, then your dr is right.
