yes, excersing will do him some good but not too much too quick......if i were him i would go back to the doctor and ask for 2 things......1 being an anti-inflammatory and 2 a z-pack of prednisone to take away to inflammation! ice help but in short time routines! hot shower helps also...it help to get a shower pic which is a shower head that you can turn and get all kinds of speeds....have him aim it at the tender spots with as hot of water as he can handle! then after a half hour ice it! hope i can help...i have reumatory arthritis and have had gout...the sterioids(predisome) really helped! the spelling on them are off....im a bad speller! oopss!!

hope he feels better!
i have gone throught the same thing and its hell! tell him about the shower thing and get some anti-inflamotory meds and a steroid z-pack to take the swelling off! if you have a normal shower head, then soaking in a very very hott bath might help also!!! then switch off ice and heat!!! neither one for too long!!

Its not gout. Gout mostly affects one joint at a time. From what you describe, he needs to see a rheumatologist ASAP.
