Have been careful and taking it slowly, only twice a week for the past 4 weeks. Most of the time my heal pain is at a 2/10, including when running. About 2 hours after running, it feels very sore for about 24 hours and then returns to 2/10. Is this normal and to be expected ? If so, when would I likely have no increase in soreness after running ?
Also, when might all soreness go completely ?
Hope you can advise, thank you !

Laser vs oblation shot for morton's neuroma?

My doctor has suggested either laser or oblation shots for my mortons neuroma.
35-year-old healthy female.
Three months ago, bilateral traumatic great toenail avulsions.
Now, regrowing, but burrowing into distal nail beds.

Hot, very salty water soaks to decrease tissue swelling.
Using Japonesque-brand nippers to get under leading edge of nails, pull over tissue.
Clipping ingrowing shards.
Almost 24/7 coconut oil application (messy!)

I fear that the nails, which are regrowing strongly, will become ingrown. I have never had an ingrown nail. I have googled the problem and read about cotton bits and dental floss. The toenails are too tight for those.

Angling the tool under the nails and freeing them is painful and time-consuming but tolerable. I fear I am damaging the nail beds. I also fear I am not freeing the nails frequently enough.

The bone was hitting my tendon. She took the bone piece out. It is not healing and doctor says it will not. If I am active I have to stay off from it for awhile sometimes a day and it can bother me longer. It swells, turns red, burns and hurts if I'm on it for extended periods.

My question...if I don't have surgery will it not get any better? If I have surgery again what are the chances it will get worse? I'm not getting decisive answers from doctor.

What is happening...the tendons and ligaments were suppose to grow in between where the bone was taken out and fuse it together. It is not. One side is going up the other down. She said that if I have the surgery the rod would stay in for 6 weeks instead of 3 and be in a larger cast.

Posterior Tibial Tendonitis orthotic ?

Hello!
Have been dealing with a diagnosis of Posterior Tibial Tendonitis since June of 2015 in my left foot. This diagnosis was from my Podiatrist after an examination and x-ray. I work as an Licensed Nursing Assistant on a Locked Alzheimer's Unit, and I am on my feet for 8+ hours a night, constant fast walking, patient transfers, chasing escapees etc. Have gone through periods of foot sorness/aching in the past, and during one of these times, I happened to climb up a few flights of stairs and immediately was limping so bad, I could barely walk. Ankle was very swollen and tender to the touch. Friend who saw my ankle called it Pregnant Cankles! Had a similar flare up after a visit to NYC the year before climbing all the Subway stairs, but it resolved itself after a couple of weeks. I should add that I have had flat feet for my whole life and used to get ankle sprains very easily throughout childhood. With that said, I used to be a runner and never had any major issues with my feet. Podiatrist gave me a couple of different braces, soft strap-around one, to a Robo-Cop/Forrest Gump Magic Legs hard plastic one that I could not tolerate. Spent a couple weeks sitting on light-duty at work, rest, ice, elevating, epsom salt soaks to no avail. Spent time in Physical Therapy doing stretches, picking up marbles with my foot, some resistance band exercises, and a variation of the Graston Massage with no real lasting results. Tried getting motion control sneakers with over-the-counter orthotics, but nothing has worked. The only thing that helped, was when my Physical Therapist suggested I get an orthotic with a "medial heel posting" to help counter the over-pronation of my ankle/foot. So I purchased a Powerstep Orthotic with a 2 degree medial post. Though the arch support does aggravate my super flat feet, the posting does help. I have had to modify these OTC orthotics by adding a little more "height" to the heel post, but this sometimes led to some aching in my outer forefoot. My Podiatrist has been recommending a Custom Orthotic through his office for $450. I however was very, very surprised that my Insurance company, which is normally very good, would not cover one cent of the Orthotic since they deem it a "comfort measure" and have been told if I am not a diabetic it would not be covered. Sure, my Insurance will cover expensive braces, PT, and probably the surgery if I rupture the tendon, but not the little pieces of plastic that might avoid surgery, yeah, that is logical?! Now, I am at the point that during my work shift, my soreness is greatly reduced, although if I sit for more than 5-10 minutes, my ankle/foot tightens up and I will limp briefly as I start walking again. Interesting enough, have more discomfort just standing in one place than when I'm walking. When I get home after a full 8 hours on my feet, I limp after my drive home and need to ice the area. The next morning my ankle and even my achilles tendon seems tight, and yes, the mornings after a day off, my ankle is much less tight. So since my job involves being on my feet so long, will the tendonitis ever go away without me taking a longer break to rest or will it just flare up again once I start standing on them for hours at a time. Should I just bite-the-bullet and pay for the Custom Orthotics which will create the exact right height of heel posting to get me back to "neutral"? Have been told that OTC ones are just as good, would hate to pay all that money out of pocket and not have them help. Have been trying to lose weight, prob. 15-20 pounds overweight, but active. This tenacious tendonitis is so frustrating!! Any insights, suggestions would be great, thank you!

Is flat feet known to be associated with ankle pain/ strains?

Why does my arch keep cracking? My ankle had been hurting for a couple weeks before and it was hard to go up any stairs or run. I haven't done much exercise other than a two mile run/jog/walk P.E. last Friday (yes, I did it with my ankle in pain). The weird thing is is that when I 'patted' the other (left) side of my right foot, the right side, where I described before, hurt. Also, when I lift my leg into the air, it hurts in the foot, and when I bend my toes down or up. But, it doesn't hurt when I bend my toes with my hand. I tried Ibuprofen, it didn't help much. I slept ok, and I didn't wake up at night from any pain. When I woke up this morning, it still hurt, but not nearly as much as it did yesterday. I can walk, but I limp. I didn't go to school today, and one of the doctors at my pediatricians' office gave me a 'no P.E.' note, but other than that, she just told me what I already knew. Also, I have been cracking my 'knuckles' (are they the same as on fingers?) on my toes for a couple of years now (I haven't been doing it today because it hurts) , if that gives any reason. But other than that, I can't think of anything that touched my foot other than my socks and shoes. My foot is not disoriented or anything, and I don't participate in any athletic activities, other than P.E.

I have flat feet (over-pronation) and also have prescription orthotics. But I would rather fix my feet than have to wear orthotics. I have started doing exercises to strengthen the feet and walking barefoot as much as possible. But I'm not sure HOW I should be walking when I do this - should I walk with the relevant muscles of the foot & leg in contraction (i.e. so that I am holding my arches in the correct position the whole time)? Or just walk however my feet want to (which right now is over-pronated and hurts my knees)? Will walking with the muscles contracted help them to strengthen quicker, or will it cause more damage because there is no relax-contract movement? Any advice gratefully received!

Thank you [:)]

Is it possible to get early acute compartment syndrome near the cuboid from a velco shoe strap?

Is it possible to get early acute compartment syndrome after foot irritation from walking and a shoe strap being too tight? (A velcro strap near the cuboid.)

Soon after walking, my shoe strap started feeling tight and my left foot hurt worse with each step. I took my shoe off for about 20 minutes while sitting down, then put it back on to walk to my car and kept the strap more loose. I was in agony with each step on my left foot.

It still hurt very badly even when I wasn't putting weight on it. When I got home I took my shoes and socks off and my left foot was purplish-blue compared to the right which was more white. The left was also slightly swolen above the cuboid area. I could barely move my foot and toes in any direction and my foot felt somewhat tingly and partially numb. The pain was moderate-severe without touch or weight bearing and very severe with weight bearing.

Long story shorter, I ended up at the ER. I thought perhaps it was a stress fracture. The doctor also thought it was a bone issue, but did not do a weight bearing x ray due to the pain. They did 3 x rays at different angles but nothing abnormal was seen.

The doctor did find a specific sensitive place in the foot that was along the 5th metatarsal bone area. I was advised to use crutches, given an orthopedic shoe and referred to an orthopedist.

I arrived at my appointment 2 days later, took off the shoe, and had 2 perfectly white feet with no pain, standing or otherwise except for a slight ache every now and then on the left edge of my foot. I was told I didn't need the crutches or ortho shoe anymore. The doc didn't know what was wrong with it except maybe capsulitis or waste-a-doctor's-time-itis. I asked if it could be a nerve problem and was quickly told no.

I was told to come back if it happened again so the doc could see the swelling/ color/ pain. This was a Friday. Doc said just to put ice on it if it happened over the weekend and wait until Monday to come in. He seemed shocked I had gone to the ER considering how normal it appeared 2 days later. I think he was trying to keep me from going back there unnecessarily. In a way I appreciate that but after doing some research of my symptoms online, compartment syndrome seemed the most compatible to my symptoms to me, and if it happened again over the weekend, I was afraid it could be an emergency.

Fortunately it didn't happen, but I am wondering if that could have been what happened to my foot. Neither the ER doctor nor the ortho doctor looked at the shoes I had been wearing. The ER doc did take pulses which were okay, but I read that pulses can be normal in compartment syndrome. My blood pressure was high at the ER. This could have been from the pain itself or maybe from cs? I would just like another opinion about what could have happened and wondering if early acute compartment syndrome was a possibility, that resolved on its own after pressure was released time went by. Thank you for your input.

calcaneal fracture ?

.............hi , i have a calcaneal fracture , i think that means a busted heel pad ....the bone is not broken ....my ortho says its not healing , been in a cast for 2 months ....walking on tip toes .....is it dangerous to walk on that foot ? i really need to go back to work .....my doctor says i might have my leg amputated .....is that a accurate assessment ? thank you .....

The role of foot orthoses in rheumatoid arthritis management ?

Rheumatoid arthritis remission- Do foot orthoses actually affect 'disease activity' or are they just preventing progressive deformity and associated pain. I wear a lot of heels and I notice by then end of the day my toes and the balls of my feet loose feeling. I read a tip about taping your third and fourth toes together to relieve some of the pain and pressure, is this true? And why? What does this do? Does this only work by taping these 2 toes in particular or can I tape together any toes?

Thank you,

Elizabeth

I was given inserts, which I didn't wear for very long. The ankle problems have gotten worse over time but as an adult I started noticing another problem.

I stand and walk on the outside of the fifth toes, rather than the bottom. Aesthetically, I find it embarrassing. Fuctionally, I don't know if it's a result of, or a contributing factor to my flat feet, or if it's completely unrelated. I wasn't diagnosed with anything related to that, as a child, so it's possible that it's developed over time. Is there a name for this and what is the treatment?

Does Oscon work for Severs disease?

All I can see online are lots of one sided testimonials how great it is. Worst decision I ever made, I have had recurrent pain and infections ever since, and still have to cut the nail out every month even though he claimed he chemically cauterized it. I have been treatung it myself since the initial surgery was so painful and a can't afford another multi hundred dollar visit to the podiatrist (that was after insurance, currently I have no insurance). This latest infection has been going on over a week and I can't seem to curb the pain. After salt soaks and ointment didn't work, I added drawing salve, which is helping I can see it pulling infection out, but now I'm noticing a ton of granulated tissue that is getting more painful. This whole experience has led me to a hate and fear of podiatrists and I can't afford another visit. I would love some options that I can try myself. It's getting painful to walk and that's not an option, I'm a CNA. I felt a pop and instantly felt a bump of the outside of my ankle. The next day I went to my athletic trainer and she taped me up and allowed my to return to play 3 days later. It caused me a fair amount of pain for the next 3 weeks while I was playing soccer but I just tuffed it out. After this, my season was over so I just assumed it would get better, but it did not. It does feel a little better now and I can walk on it with no pain. I'm only worried about it because my Cross Country season is stating up in a couple of week and my ankle needs to be ok to do 35 mile weeks. It became swollen and hot and there was pain at the tip and the point where toe connects to foot with some ball of foot pain directly below. Now, middle toe (next to second toe) is painful with swelling on the underside of the toe at the first joint and the ball of foot pain is acute. I have had blood test to rule out gout, etc. and an MRI and Ortho does not know what's happening other than possibly rheumatoid arthritis. Based on descriptions on line I think capsulitis. I am worried since recently middle tow became involved. Any ideas? btw... It is not in the area where people get bunions. Any ideas?

Two weeks later went to a sports medicine ortho and I was in boot for two weeks, then brace with 6 weeks PT and released without a final xray showing healing.

In March this year, I felt a crunch, crunch , crunch in my left foot/ankle while just standing. It did not hurt, bruise or really swell. Two weeks later felt pain while running and realized it felt just like when I broke it. Went to podiatrist and both ankles of L foot had avulsion fractures. One partially healed and one not. Also avulsion fracture of 5th met, that was partially healed. Put in boot and Dr. ordered bone stimulator.

4 weeks in my foot hurt really bad. Asked for crutches and put on them for two weeks. Made appointment two weeks later appointment and night before appointment finally got bone stimulator. Went to appointment and was told one break healed other two not. Told to use bone stimulator and released to do whatever I wanted and to let pain be my guide. No need for boot or to return unless I had problems. I specifically asked about gym and running and told no restrictions.

Are bone stimulators really all that great at least 6 weeks or more after the break there is no need for follow up? Why no final xray to see it healed? Why not boot etc. if it is still not healed? Or is it just the way the Dr. handles the ... It may not work but we have to go through the process for insurance purposes and since I only have 12 PT sessions a year it is better to save them in case it doesn't work.

This makes no sense to me or anyone else I know.

What if anything can I do to relieve my pain ?. To be specific a sliver of glazed ceramic tile. It went to deep for me to get and calloused or encapsulated. It wasnt a real bother at that time until about a year went by and it began to give me pain. I went to a Podiatrist who I had scrubbed with ( I'm a scrub tech) to get help. I told him my story and he did an in office procedure and really ignored the fact that I had a FB in my heel.He didnt see it until my post-op xray and then scheduled surgery at an outpatient center because of the depth of the tile in my heel. So 2 surgeries later and two podiatrists later and an expensive pair of orthotics later. I am in pain constantly. I have antalgic gait and the opposite knee and hamstring constantly ache. Its been about 5 yrs and I cannot seem to find any answers. I work full time as a surgical tech and thankfully am the medical records officer so I do get to sit sometime but scrubbing is difficult. It is progressively worsening and I see no solutions. I have insurance but cant afford to keep seeing doctors when I cant find answers other than everything I have tried. I constantly cut the callous that is dead center my left heel so I can walk a bit on that side. Its back n forth on my toes and right heel . All my muscles ache. I have a 3 level cervical fusion and my entire spine feels misaligned. From head to toe this absolutely sucks and any advice would be truly appreciated!!. I still manage but again this isnt where I expected to be at 47 yrs old.
